The Orphan spirit by James Jordan
We all have an orphan spirit. It is the human condition. It is the state of the world. Father has come in christ to be Father to us.

Reviewed by Jim Hall

I first heard this message in 2006 when James and Denise Jordan came to Belfast. It changed how I see the foundations of God’s kingdom, the condition of my heart, and the incredible lengths to which my Father has gone in bringing me home into his heart of love.

James argues that the Christian life is not a philosophical or theological construction, but rather new life in our hearts.

John 4 v 18 is central in understanding this:

“I will not leave you as orphans, I will come to you.”

We can learn several things from this verse.  First, and most important, we are orphans living in a fallen world, but our Heavenly Father will not leave us in that state.  He pursues us with his love, in order to restore us to His family and fulfil His original plans for us, His children.  This revelation also enables us to understand the problems we encounter as individuals, families, communities and nations as orphan hearts interact with each other.

James goes on to portray satan as the ultimate orphan, who rejected God as his Father.  It is key to satan’s plans that we too live the orphan life.  The world system which he inspires and perpetuates has orphan values at its core.  We accept this lifestyle as normal, as it is all we have ever known.

James answers difficult questions which most of us have even been reluctant to ask.  Why did God drive his children out of the garden?  How could they have been tempted to sin in such a perfect environment?  He opens our eyes to see Adam and his wife (she was named Eve after they were cast out of the garden) through eyes of compassion and the broken hearted anguish of our Father as his children experienced pain, loss and separation for the first time.  Many of us have been taught that anger and disapproval motivated Father at The Fall, but James shows how, even in the difficult decisions, Father acted out of a heart of love.

The central story of The Bible is of a broken-hearted father who has lost his children, and the lengths He goes to bring them back into a loving relationship with Himself.  It is only when we live in the knowledge that He is loving us right now, that we can move from living the life of an orphan to become a son or daughter of Almighty God.

This is a message we need to hear again and again, so that the core of who we are may be fed with our Father’ s love, which calls us out of the orphan life to live loved at home with Him.

This revelation has transformed my life!

Humility - the Journey towards Holiness by Andrew Murray

When Jesus "made himself nothing ... taking the nature of a servant," He modeled for all believers true humility. Murray calls this "our true nobility" and "the distinguishing feature of discipleship." In twelve brief but powerful chapters, Murray journeys through Scripture and Christ's life, underscoring the utmost need for humility---as opposed to pride---in the Christian's life. With insightful, penetrating clarity, Murray calls all Christians to turn from pride, empty themselves, and study the character of Christ to be filled with His grace. Often called the best work on humility ever written, this edition has been edited for today's reader.

"Humility, the place of entire dependence on God."

This highly recommended book is only for those who want to be challenged and called far beyond where they currently are in their walk with Father and their manifestation of the nature of Jesus.  I cried, repented, saw once again a glimpse of how far I am from walking in the nature of Him I call LORD, and marvelled at the anointing of the Holy Spirit on words written well over 100 years ago.

This is one of the few books which I will cherish and read again and again, knowing that each time I do, Father will reveal more of where I am at, with no condemnation, only compassion and love, as He calls me far beyond myself, to reveal Him to this broken world as I walk in His humility.

The awesome thing is: it can only happen through the power of the indwelling Christ within me - the revelation of His love changing me from the inside out.  My part?  To want it, to ask for it, to be open to my Father loving me right now.
